Sons and Daughters of Officers of the Colonial Militia 1775-1783
“The American militia, in the course of the late war, have, by their valor on numerous occasions, erected eternal monuments to their fame…,” wrote Alexander Hamilton in The Federalist No. 25. We the living cannot honor the brave men who served in the militia during the American Revolution; their own conduct and deeds have honored them. However, we can remember them, and to this end, the Sons and Daughters of Officers of the Colonial Militia 1775-1783 was created to ensure that posterity will never forget those men who voluntarily forsook hearth and home to lead their fellow countrymen in the fight to secure freedom and liberty for themselves and future generations.
The Sons and Daughters of Officers of the Colonial Militia 1775-1783 seeks to educate the public about the men who led the militias during the American Revolution. We look forward to expanding our database of militia officers to serve as a monument for them all. Through soliciting and publishing original research about the militia, we hope to add to the public understanding about these men who, elevated by their neighbors to positions of leadership, set aside plow and hammer to pick up musket and sword and lead them against the largest and most well-equipped military of their time. Finally, we seek to support our current militia, today’s National Guard, by providing charitable and monetary support for scholarships and other educational endeavors related to the National Guard.
Thank you for visiting our website. We hope that you find the information contained herein informative and, should you find a patriot ancestor who served as an officer in one of the many colonial militias between the years 1775 through 1783, we hope that you decide to join us and help us as we perpetuate the memories of these colonial militia officers and support our current militia, the National Guard.
We are a society organized and operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code, including educating the public on the American Revolution and about those who served as officers in the militias of the thirteen colonies during the war of the American Revolution.
