PG VETS BRINGS GREETINGS TO SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION
July 17, 2023
President General Tony L. Vets, Sr was invited to bring greetings at the opening session of the 133rd Congress of the Sons of the American Revolution held in Orlando, FL. Below are his prepared remarks.
"Good morning. I bring you greetings from the Sons and Daughters of Officers of the Colonial Militia 1775-1783.
We are a newer organization, but like the SAR, DAR, CAR and SR, we share in the great mission of honoring our Patriot Ancestors, but specifically for us, those who served as Officers of the militia during the American Revolution.
There were many men who served in that capacity on April 19th, 1775 but undoubtably the one most remembered on that day would be Captain John Parker. When we were designing our medal, it was Parker that we knew we had to place on the front. On the back, we have his famous quote, “Stand your ground. Don’t fire unless fired upon. But if they mean to have a fight, let it begin here.”
From that day in April 1775 until June 14th, 1775, the militia was the only force protecting the communities. After the Continental Army was formed, they continued to supplement the regular forces while protecting the areas that the army was not present. Much like the National Guard of today, these citizen soldiers protected their communities while standing ready to serve when called upon.
Like the SAR, SDOCM is a 501 C 3 organization operating exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. We proudly support the National Guard Education Foundation as our tribute to those citizen soldiers of today, thus honoring the memory of our ancestors who served as Officers of the Colonial Militia.
On behalf of the members of SDOCM, I congratulate PG Picket on a successful term of office. I also congratulate all officers who will be elected and know that you will serve well, but most of all I wish you all a great time at this, the 133rd Congress of the Sons of the American Revolution."

SDOCM MAKES FIRST CHARITABLE DONATION
January 04, 2022
Although the Sons and Daughters of Officers of the Colonial Militia has only been existence for a few months, it has hit the ground running, making its first charitable donation to the National Guard Educational Foundation at the end of 2021. "It was important to us that we start engaging in our mission immediately. SDOCM was organized for educational and charitable purposes, and we hope that in some small way our charitable support of the National Guard Educational Foundation will help them continue educating the public about the role of the militias during the revolution," said Tony L. "Bo" Vets II, President General of the Sons and Daughters of Officers of the Colonial Militia 1775-1783.
The National Guard Educational Foundation runs the National Guard Memorial Museum located in Washington D.C. According to the museum website, one of the items in their collection is a militia order calling for the militias to assemble north of Boston the day after the Battles of Lexington and Concord.
